About the author : Rosa María Bocharán Sánchez
BA in Fashion Design and Management and an expert in the History of Clothing. As an illustrator and stage costume specialist, she has worked as a designer, educator, and director of her own brand. After a lifetime dedicated to the craft, she decided to create the book she wished she had during her training: a work born from her passion for design, illustration, and history.
Throughout her career, she has researched traditional techniques and collaborated on projects where attire is key to storytelling—whether depicting an era or a character. Her work combines rigor, sensitivity, and a deep respect for craftsmanship, values that define this book.
Design, Draftsmanship, and Craft
In a world of stock images and AI-generated content, this book reclaims the artist's intent. Created "the old-fashioned way"—using markers, watercolors, and pastels—it transforms the history of clothing into a must-have for lovers of fashion, history, and illustration.
History’s Most Irreverent Side
Forget those snooze-fest manuals. The history of dress is packed with wild decisions, power symbols, and absurd rules. Did you know a king once banned anyone from wearing shoes like his under penalty of death? Or that silk reached Europe thanks to a spy mission involving eggs hidden in bamboo canes?
A Page-Turning Read
This book transforms the history of dress into a vivid and relatable narrative. Its clear language and brisk pace make the pages fly by, allowing you to enjoy every discovery of how each era expresses itself through clothing. An engaging yet rigorous read that hooks you from the very first page.
